Michael Jordan
Good morning peeps, meditation done.
Quote for the day:
“There is no “i” in team but there is in win.”
Michael Jordan
In sport the foundation of a winning team, is team work, organisation and discipline and all of you working towards a common goal together, but the difference between winning and losing is often individual brilliance.
In what I do for a living a lot of your time is spent working on your own and the hours you put in yourself are what are going to make you stand out from the crowd. But you cannot get to the top in anything in life without the support of other people.
When I first started personal training I was fortunate to start off at what was at the time the best gym in London with a team of brilliant trainers under the management of David Cooper, who I trained with everyday and went on to set up in my opinion the best chain of gyms in London GYMBOX. I spent the next 10 years working on my own in the homes of my celebrity clients, but every Saturday morning I would meet up with Olympic legend Daley Thompson at Battersea Athletics track to enjoy the training and banter of the Saturday Club and also began capoeira and yoga.
I spent 4 years doing Capoeira a Brazilian martial art working with the incredible teacher and one of the most stylish movers I have ever seen Mestre Poncianinho.
I began my yoga journey with Lara Baumann and gained valuable guidance from Sundara, Cat, Stewart Gilchrist, Amy Ippoliti, David Kiel and yoga superstars David Life, Sharron Gannon and Kino Macgregor.
It was not until I moved to Scotland that I really got into Ashtanga thanks to Mo Still and Mysore under the incredible Sarah Hatcher.
I returned to London to work with my childhood hero Daley Thompson and help him open his DaleyFitness gym and then started to train my celebrity clients again in their homes.
Last year I started learning BARRE and the BARREtoned teacher training was one of the most challenging things I have ever had to do and I only got through it with the support of team work of my fellow trainees Amber, Catherine, Lauren and Sam. I believe we were the first group to all complete the training and I am proud to be the first and only man to do so.
At Chelsea Health Club the fitness side of Chelsea Football club at Stamford Bridge I am fortunate to have a great manager in Jake Helm and it is pleasure to work alongside my old dancing friend Neil Johnson, who is as good a trainer as he was a dancer and anyone who saw him dance knows that is saying something.
I am loving being part of the exciting new North London fitness scene at Centric:3Tribes and Yoga Centric the teachers are all amazing, some of the finest in London and the camaraderie is so inspiring and fun. Dan and Jessica are such lovely people and an absolute joy to work with.
I feel very blessed to work with such nice and talented people and be part of a team, but the end of the day I get judged on how good I am at what I do.
The proof is in the pudding so why not come and try it out this week as I will not be around in London much in August.
This week I will be teaching Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only as I am coming back from Scotland today.
