Today is a very special Friday Ship from us. We’re pleased to introduce you to two Parabol team members!
Terry Acker
Terry comes to us via his agency Faceta which he started in 2015 to partner with agencies and companies to bring digital projects to life. Terry specializes in front-end architecture, UX strategy, UI design, and brand systems. He has worked as a designer and front-end developer for Quirky, BoomTown, and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. He also serves as an advisor for early stage start-ups.
Terry is passionate about helping individuals, teams and organizations achieve their full potential. He believes that a strong sense of purpose and meaning can help achieve this. When people are working at their best, and growing, they can provide the best services, craft the best experiences, and deliver the best products.
Terry has been involved in faith-based mission works for more than a decade in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Guatemala, and Texas. For Terry, it has taken an introvert from behind a computer to a place of learning to love people and enjoy culture and language.
Terry and his wife, Clara, are new parents, and expecting another on the way!
We first met Terry while he and Jordan worked together at Quirky. He’s been with us as an advisor from the beginning, but has now joined us in earnest.
Matthew Krick
Matthew Krick is a full-stack web developer, consultant, and certified Project Management Professional.
He is currently finishing up his 27-month Peace Corps service in Mexico, where he has been volunteering at a research center training programming teams on version control systems and clean coding practices while creating cutting edge, lifesaving applications. Additionally, he coached engineering teams on how to be more business minded, develop stronger business cases, and perform market and risk analyses for new discoveries. Previously, he worked at Ecova in a business intelligence role as a B2B consultant. Prior to joining Ecova, Matthew worked as a project manager at Boeing. He graduated from University of Portland with a double major in Operations Technology Management and Spanish.
We first learned of Matt while developing the initial iteration of our 3REE stack for Action. While researching what others were doing, we stumbled upon Matt’s experimental stack Meatier and were awestruck. We searched for a way to reach him and later found he was active on Medium where we wrote him a sort of a love letter. After getting in contact, he’s helped us port Action to Meatier and is joining Parabol full-time in June.
We’re thrilled to have both Terry and Matt on board with us!
Metrics
Hits and views of our content are down sharply this week – mostly attributable to Jordan not having published any original content on Medium in over a month. Visitors to our Action GitHub repository continue to climb as developer velocity increases.
Next week we’re publishing a couple of new pieces of content on transparency and expect our aggregate Hits and Views to climb once again.
This week we…
…made great progress on our on-boarding journey. We’ve begun at the beginning of our user journey: (1) naming a team, (2) inviting others, (3) giving them initial projects, (4) check-in round. This week Terry and Jordan implemented or partially implemented 15 distinct components in a new branch called setup. Here’s how they look together:
…setup accounting and payroll. Last week we wrote about the challenges we were having linking our bank to our accounting and payroll service. This week, Taya overcame these challenges by asking for a modification to our bank’s account configuration and switching accounting and payroll providers. We’re now using Quickbooks.
…continued writing a talk and presentation for a talk Jordan is delivering on transparency. Join us next week for HAPPY & HEALTHY CO. hosted by cymk.vc:
Next week we’ll…
…work on roughing-in logic to invite new users.
…begin implementing the check-in round.
…post an article on transparency.
…deliver a talk on the same at cymk.vc.
Until next week,
Jordan, Taya, & the Parabol team
